
Privacy Policy
1. Purpose
The purpose of the following Privacy Policy is to let you know how ADFACT collects information, its intended use and the obligations of the organisation relative to disclosure of the said information.
2. Collection of Information
ADFACT is a registered organisation whose aim is: To reduce the impact of substance use in our community through treatment, education support and research.
ADFACT needs to collect information for the purpose of research, service delivery and membership applications, and research and statistical analysis for the improvement of service delivery. These purposes will be clearly indicated when gathering information.
ADFACT needs to collect some sensitive information (racial or ethnic origin, political opinions and/or affiliations, criminal history, health records, sexual preferences and/or practices, professional or trade association memberships and union memberships – as defined under Section 10 of the National Privacy Act) from clients who receive health services from the organisation. For individuals in contact with the organisation, but not receiving health care services, sensitive information will only be collected on a voluntary basis when relevant.
Visitors to the ADFACT website are able to interact with the contents anonymously as ADFACT does not use ‘cookies’ to identify and track users. Should ADFACT choose to start tracking visitors on its website, this change will be indicated in the present policy.
3. Use of Anonymous Information
At times, ADFACT may collect anonymous data for the purpose of research and statistics. This information will be kept anonymous and the intended use of such information will always be clearly indicated on the documents. Individuals are under no obligation to volunteer such information. Anonymous data may further be compiled by ADFACT for research and publication purposes. Any research project undertaken by ADFACT has been assessed and cleared by the relevant human ethics committee.
4. Use of Personal Information
All personal, including sensitive, information is kept strictly confidential (subject to disclosures required by law – refer to 7. below) and may only be accessed by relevant staff within ADFACT. Its use remains rigorously within the scope of ADFACT’s activities and functions.
5. Contacts/Memberships Database
As an organisation that offers membership, ADFACT’s contact and/or membership database is extensive. However, this database has protected access and is only available to staff who require its information.
5a. Data Quality
ADFACT will ensure all data is kept as up-to-date as possible through various means (mail outs, emails, surveys, etc.).
6. Staff and Volunteer Obligations
Staff and volunteers of the organisation are required under contract to maintain the confidentiality of all personal information that they have access to at ADFACT.
7. Disclosure
Disclosure of personal information will only be disclosed as required for the provision of services, or as permitted under National Privacy Principle 2. These include for the purposes of law enforcement, under reasonable belief that such disclosure would prevent any serious and/or imminent threat to an individual’s or the public’s health and safety, or under any other legal requirement.
8. Your Rights
You may request details of your personal information as kept by ADFACT at any time. You may also request cessation of all mailing and communications at any time by contacting us. Should you choose not to provide the organisation with information, ADFACT may not be able to contact you, provide you with a full range of services, or keep your details up-to-date.
Please note that current clients receiving health care services are covered under separate documentation.
9. Complaints
